Chitungwiza Central Hospital (CCH) has successfully performed a groundbreaking surgery to remove a massive pituitary macroadenoma (brain tumor) through the nose using an endoscopy. The procedure, led by Mr. Nyamapfene, took place last Friday and marks a significant milestone in the hospital’s neurosurgery department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Mangozhe, who assisted in the surgery, shared details about the case. “The patient, Mr. Chakanetsa Nyatsanga, presented with a 2-year history of gradual loss of vision associated with terrible headaches and all sorts of other symptoms. He finally came to us about 3 weeks ago with CT imaging showing a massive pituitary macroadenoma, and we decided to do it here at CCH using our sophisticated Karl Storz endoscopy machine \u2013 a departure from our traditional way of doing things.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The multidisciplinary team, including Mr. Nyamapfene (Neurosurgeon), Mr. Matinhira (ENT surgeon), Dr. Zhou (anaesthetist), Dr. Mangozhe as assistant, Sr. Wagoneka as OTN, and the theatre staff, performed the surgery successfully. “The case went on smoothly, and the patient was admitted to HDU post-op and discharged a day later to the general ward. We\u2019re planning discharge soon,” Dr. Mangozhe said, adding, “The aim was to relieve Mr. Nyatsanga\u2019s symptoms, and we\u2019re happy with how it turned out.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Nyatsanga, currently admitted at the hospital, expressed his heartfelt gratitude. “I am so happy that I was treated very well here at this hospital. I thank God and the medical team God used to treat me,” he said, recovering well post-surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
